Iranian official calls for free elections in Bahrain after 22 months of political unrest

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) A top Iranian diplomat called on Tuesday for holding free elections in Bahrain which has seen 22 months of political unrest against the ruling Al-Khalifa family. Ramin Mehmanparast, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, made the remarks as he shunned violence in Syria and defended the Syrian people’s right to free election.“Supporters and opponents of the government (in Syria) must gather together and decide about free election. This election should also be held in Bahrain, Yemen and other regional countries,” Mehmanparast told reporters in Ankara, Turkey.
