Introducing a Shia book: Combat with the Self

SHAFAQNA (Shia News Association)Combat with the Self, by Sheikh Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Hurr al-Amili, is a compilation of traditions (hadith) from the Holy Prophet (S) and his Household (ahl al-bayt), classified under various subsections, all focusing on the subject of the self, its vices, temptations, strengths and weaknesses.

Based on the premise that one’s own self is one’s greatest enemy, the book elaborates on universally acknowledged issues of moral and ethical value from honesty and charity to humility and philanthropy. It consists purely of the sayings of the infallible Imams. The reader will be left amazed at the total harmony between the Imams’ words and the message of the Qur’an.

Sheikh Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Hurr al-Amili collected these traditions from great canonical compilations such as al-Kafi and very specific works like Kitab al-Zuhd.
