SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) — At least 11 people, including seven US-led soldiers have been killed in a helicopter crash in the troubled southern Afghanistan.
On Thursday, the NATO helicopter reportedly crashed in southern Kandahar Province.
According to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), three of the soldiers have been identified as Americans.
Officials say three members of the Afghan security forces and an Afghan civilian interpreter were also killed in the incident.
According to Taliban spokesman Qari Yusuf Ahmadi, the militants “shot down an ISAF helicopter in Chenarto area of Shah Wali Kot district in Kandahar province at around 11:00 am (0630 GMT)”.
“Our mujahideen (holy warriors) shot down an ISAF helicopter in Chenarto area of Shah Wali Kot district in Kandahar province at around 11:00 am (0630 GMT),” Taliban spokesman Ahmadi said.
Meanwhile, one US-led soldier was killed in a militant attack in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday.
On Monday, an Afghan police officer killed a US-led soldier in the country’s eastern Nangarhar Province.
At least 295 US-led foreign soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.
A total of 566 US-led forces died in Afghanistan in 2011.
However, 2010 remains the deadliest year for foreign military casualties, with a death toll of 711.
The 2001-present US-led war in Afghanistan, with civilian and military casualties at record highs, has become the longest military conflict in the American history.—www.shafaqna.com/english
